What is SBYET?
A California Non-Profit and semi-professional youth Musical Theatre Ensemble composed of exceptionally gifted local talent ages 4-18 years.
Who are its participants?
SBYET participants are hand-selected students who receive ongoing acting, vocal, and dance training at the acclaimed ADDERLEY SCHOOL FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS under the tutelage of director and Broadway veteran, JANET ADDERLEY.
Students study in preparation for a series of performances produced annually at The Lobero Theatre. This unique partnership between THE ADDERLEY SCHOOL and The Lobero affords deserving youth an unsurpassed educational opportunity in their quest for artistic excellence.
Why do we need a youth ensemble theatre in Santa Barbara?
For the extremely gifted student of the performing arts, nothing rivals the elation and sense of accomplishment achieved by performing for the community at large in an ensemble of equally gifted, young performers, and working with top-notch union technicians and a world class orchestra on a state-of-the-art, professional stage.
Our Dream Has Been Met!
In the last nine years, SBYET has become an integral part of the Lobero season, incorporating local youth performances into The Lobero’s stellar tradition of service to the Santa Barbara community. We have created a legion of youth who, as adults, will fill The Lobero seats as patrons, sit on local boards dedicated to sustaining local artistic institutions, and perhaps even thrill future audiences as seasoned, successful adult performers, ever grateful for the amazing training they received in SBYET.
Our ultimate goal each year is to produce a full-scale Broadway musical with a full orchestra, sophisticated sets, costumes, and intricate lighting designs. We want to create an extensive audience base through advertisements and subscriptions. We are hoping to hire a director of development to assist with sponsorships, grant writing, and building community outreach. Santa Barbara Youth Ensemble Theatre wants to continue to attract outstanding instructors/directors and provide student scholarships for outstanding candidates who cannot afford tuition.
SBYET will prevail!
Over the last ten years, with unparalleled productions of INTO THE WOODS, LES MISERABLES, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, DAMN YANKEES, HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS, WEST SIDE STORY, OLIVER, GYPSY and this year’s incredible production of HAIRSPRAY, SBYET has established a stalwart reputation in the community.
